Membership

Two categories of membership, clear rights and duties — open to individuals and legal entities.

Who can join

Membership is voluntary. Members may be individuals with legal capacity and legal entities that share the goals of the association, support its digital model of development and accept its Statute and Code of Ethics.

Two categories

Full members

Full members constitute the General Assembly and take part in it with one vote each. They are admitted by decision of the General Assembly, taken with a two-thirds majority of all its members, on a proposal from the Management Board.

Rights:

  • participation in the activity of the association and in the General Assembly with voting rights;
  • to elect and be elected to the bodies and advisory structures;
  • information about the activity, financial standing, budget implementation and impact indicators, and copies of the minutes;
  • to request that a General Assembly be convened;
  • to use the results of the activity and the digital infrastructure built by the association.

Associate members

Associate members are admitted by decision of the Management Board upon written application, submitted on paper or electronically, including through the association’s digital platform.

Rights:

  • participation in the projects, programmes and structures they are included in;
  • information about the activity and the annual reports;
  • attendance at General Assembly meetings with an advisory voice, without a vote;
  • written proposals, reports and questions to the Management Board, answered within one month;
  • use of the results of the activity and of the digital infrastructure.

An associate member may be admitted as a full member upon their own written request or on a proposal from the Management Board.

Duties

  • to observe the Statute, the Code of Ethics and the decisions of the governing bodies;
  • to actively support the achievement of the goals;
  • to pay membership fees in the amount and within the deadlines set by the General Assembly;
  • to make property contributions where such are provided for;
  • strict confidentiality — including in respect of the personal data of people seeking legal help, the algorithms, internal expert analyses and software development.

How to apply

Send a written application to bga.sustainable@gmail.com with a short introduction, the membership category you are applying for, and the area in which you would like to contribute — legal aid, technology, training, communications or fundraising.

We also welcome attorneys willing to join the free legal aid network under the Bulgarian Bar Act, and interns from the universities in Varna.
